Well, I start a lot and finish little. But I am bound and determined to finish what I started tonight. I’ve never dreamed of becoming a runner or being a pencil thin model. However, I have set a goal to run a 5k before I turn 30 and I need to get healthy….so….Couch to 5k it is!
If you aren’t familiar with what Couch to 5k is, check it out here. I still do not plan on becoming a marathon runner, but I want to get active in a way that will not require me to join a gym. I abhor gyms. That may be because for my entire adult life I’ve been out of shape…but I honestly would rather have hobbies that keep me active rather than scheduling yet another thing in my day. Also…running is free(ish) and I can do it anywhere(ish). Will I? Remains to be seen, but I will try!
So I had my first “training” run tonight. My first 5k is at the end of July (excited for this!!!), but I am doing a 4k in June that is sure to be a blast. Tonight I did a brisk 5 minute walk, then alternated jogging for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds. Luckily, the app, complete with synced music and notifications make this super easy…you just gotta be able to handle the side cramp that comes on your 8th jogging minute (oh, that was just me?). I’ll be doing this again tomorrow morning and Saturday morning. Hopefully, I will be able to get out of bed and have another successful run/walk.
I hope to get running buddies to keep me company and accountable, but I’ve also started a video log. I won’t do it for every run, but it’s a good measure. So below you will see my first, albeit brief, vlog EVER. You’re welcome, world. And also: I’m sorry.
Also a part of the SlickLaRoo Slimdown: no pop or fast food until after the 4k in June. I’ve gone 11 days…I can go 60-some-odd more, right? Sure, I can!
